"STILL LIFE"
We are five girlfriends who stick together since school. Three of us have families struggling with a serious alcoholism problem. It doesn't even matter which of the family member suffers from this ailment, when life happens under one roof, it is equally painful for everyone. The other family members struggle with codependency. In a way, our lives are quiet and predictable, our families are intelligent. Morning begins with light and hope, evening, as usual, comes with stressful situations. As usual, they are hushed up, resolved, and the blackness of the night has to deal with the various feelings, which are so diverse.
I guess that such a scenario exists in thousands of families. After all, Latvia is one of the first in Europe in terms of alcohol consumption. Could it be another remnant of the Soviet era that we can't cope with? Of course, we can't blame the state for everything, but still...
We buried one of our friends' spouses last fall. He got drunk.
Bottles are everywhere around the house. I started to collect my feelings before throwing them away.
